VOLUNTEER
Mercer Elementary's PTO is made up of hard-working parents and faculty who provide important support for our school. There are a variety of volunteer roles that fit any talent, commitment level, grade, hour, or season.
If you would like to be involved and aren't sure how to get started, check out the Events page to learn more about our events and activities. If you have questions or want to volunteer, reach out to president@mercerpto.org. No matter if you serve in a recurring commitment or a one-time activity, the students and faculty appreciate you being involved and extending the Mercer family.
Guidelines for school visitors and volunteers for 2022-2023 are posted at the Forest Hills School District site.
The PTO needs:
- 15 leaders to organize events/activities (including Rock the Stands, Girls/Boys Nights Out, Ski Club, and more)
- helpers to assist the PTO Board in four areas (grant writing, fundraising, carpentry, and landscaping)
- any time or help you can give. Don't want to lead but want to help? Volunteer on a committee or as an extra set of hands.

Room parents
Room parents volunteer to represent their child's classroom and teacher in communication to parents on extra-curricular activities or needs, such as holiday parties, teacher appreciation, or in-room support. The role is a one year commitment and can be shared between two volunteers. More information and guidelines to serve as a room parent can be found here.

Background checks
Any adult who will interact with any students other than their own child while assisting with school activities or working independently must complete a background check. Background checks are valid for five years. Visit the Forest Hills School District background check "Raptor System" to complete this requirement.
If you are unsure if you need a background check, please contact the Mercer Elementary front office at 513-232-7000 or NanetteWegman@foresthills.edu.
