Greetings, and welcome to the 2020/2021 school year! Whether you are virtual or in person, it is great to be back! The Bits & Pieces newsletter provides updates from the PTA as well information about community events that pertain to Mercer students. Please read it carefully to ensure you don't miss anything! We would like to encourage all families to join the PTA by going to our website and signing up. Your dues help support PTA-funded programs for our students and teachers. Also, by becoming a member, you will have access to the directory on the PTA website. 

Gold Star Take-Out Tuesday 

Our next “Take-Out Tuesday” is September 22nd at Gold Star (7716 Beechmont Avenue.) You can order online, drive thru or carry out. A huge bonus... it is all day!! Grab lunch or dinner and support our awesome Eagles!! Click here for a flyer to pass along to your family and friends. 


Chipotle Take-Out Tuesday

Make dinner a selfless act by joining us for a fundraiser to benefit Mercer Elementary PTA. Come into the Chipotle at 7630 Beechmont Ave. in Anderson on Tuesday, Oct. 6th, between 4:00 and 8:00 PM.
At check out, let Chipotle know you are there for the Mercer Fundraiser. If you are ordering online, enter code HT2CMK4 in the ‘promo’ field. Orders placed on Chipotle.com or through the Chipotle app using this unique code will be counted towards the fundraiser. (Orders placed through delivery apps will not be counted.) See flyer for details.



Room Parent Sign-up

Please sign up to be a Room Parent/Guardian via the PTA website under Volunteer. (Please note you have to log in first.)

Duties include: 1) Organize, purchase, and drop off all items for a craft, game and goody bag for fall (10/30) and winter (12/18) parties. Please note no snacks this year due to COVID, and no parents are allowed in the classroom. 2) Organize sign-up for virtual Google Meet help for the class if requested by the teacher. More details to come. 


Class Party Donations

Please visit the PTA website under Store to contribute. (Please note you have to log in first.)

Funds collected will be used to cover the cost of class parties. This year, like last year, the fee will be combined by grade level and split between the classes.  For example, if the total donations for 4th-grade students equal $400 and there are 4 classrooms in the 4th grade, each class will receive $100 for their classroom parties for the school year.  Leftover money will be used to purchase supplies for classrooms.


Teacher Gift Donations

Please visit the PTA website under Store to donate. (Note: you have to log in first.)

All money collected will be pooled together and divided among all teachers at Mercer for a holiday gift.

It is very important that we have accurate information in our communication systems. Please go to the PTA website and update your child's data (grade, teacher, etc.) to ensure that you receive all communications pertinent to your family. Thanks for your cooperation!

COVID Fundraiser Update 
We are so appreciative of all those who have made monetary contributions and/or donated their time! We have collected almost $11,000 to date and have spent $7,887 on the purchase of a 20 x 40 commercial tent, 15 8ft tables, 28 folding chairs, 2 table dollies and 1 dolly for chairs. The tent was installed this past weekend with the assistance of some amazing parent volunteers!
We are keeping the fundraiser open for additional COVID-related needs, so if you haven't donated and would like to please go to the PTA website to contribute. We will continue to provide updates on the COVID-related needs as well as what is being purchased. 

Mercer Golden Eagle Award


The Golden Eagle this month goes to everyone involved in the Mercer tent project (details, above.) Whether you donated financially or gave your time and energy to set it up, THANK YOU! This will be a fantastic addition to the school and will allow our children to safely and comfortably learn outside in a mask-free environment.


Sixth grade parent representatives are meeting to come up with some creative social distancing ideas. Look for updates to sixth grade activities coming soon! Contact Jillian Burkhardt or Beth Compton with questions.
